Kinja'd!!!

I've been saving a chunk of each paycheck since January and according to my Excel budget, if I keep it up for a full year until April, 2016 I'll have enough to buy my life long dream car.

I've wanted a 1968-69 Corvette since I was a tiny kid. They just always called to me and I never got over them. And now they're finally within reach!

Of course, I have the willpower of a gnat and this means I'll have to not buy another car for a full year. I'll still have the Chrysler to entertain me in the meantime so it could definitely be worse!

Kinja'd!!!

But I'm excited to have a chance at my dream car!

Congrats! Can I ask what you are doing to make your money grow between now and then?

Well I don't make crazy money first of all. I was actually scraping by paycheck to paycheck on the same money for a while before I decided to stop and break down my finances.

I analyzed all my spending for a month and had an honest look at where my money was going. I cut out a lot of restaurant/bar trips and started cooking almost all my own meals to save money. I allot myself a certain amount for fun each two weeks so I'm not a total hermit. I also review my spending regularly to make sure I don't go out of my budget.

The results surprised me and now after each paycheck I put the leftovers in a savings account. I highly recommend it! Changed my life haha

I've had a soft spot for the early C3's ever since my Dad brought me over to one of his customer's houses, and he had an original, green 427 4speed that he was in the process of restoring. Sadly, I think he passed away before he could finish it. It was hidden in a small shop in the midst of his car collection/graveyard that had at least 15 Corvairs(Including a Greenbriar and at least 4 Turbos), 10 C2's, 3-4 C1's, and various other cars scattered about. It was like a dream lot for me. Strangely enough, off to the side in the woods, was a green 4 door Corvair that we believe was my Great-Grandfather's. It was even missing the badge that I have on my wall.

I like to believe I have a widely diversified portfolio.

CDs? Mutual funds? S&P 500 stocks? Precious metals? Real estate? Controlling stake in a drug cartel? Illegal weapon shipments? The tears of orphan children? The souls* of people I sacrificed to the dark elder gods and the King in Yellow?

*exchange rate is terrible; its one soul for one day of not going mad

Cool! Does the car graveyard still exist?

nice just went and looked at a 69 roadster to flip a couple weeks ago. Factory side pipes 4 speed but only a 300hp 350. Had both tops but the paint was absolutely shot. Ended up with a 34 ford pickup

Honestly, I don't know. I no longer live in the area, and my Dad changed routes before he passed away. His SIL had a few cars out there, and lived on the property, so there is hope.

Good man. Unfortunately since you are only looking to save money for a year, there is no good investment choice. Keep your cash in a CD at your bank or in your savings account. The stock and bond markets are to volatile to invest for the short term. You could end up with a 20% gain or a 20% loss a year from today. 10 years out it is more predictable, but not one year out. At least in a CD you might get 2% vs. 0% in your checking account!

69 Stingray is one of my favorite cars ever built. Love them. What motor you looking for?

That's part of my debate. The 427's are priced just a few grand from the small blocks but I really don't know. 400 hp is tempting but they also add 220 pounds to the nose of the car.

from what I know, 454 not worth it. 427 very worth it.

427 all day man!
